From 1945 to 1958, Polish Radio broadcast regular programs in Yiddish, aimed at Jewish listeners in various parts of the world. This lecture examines radio as a space where, after the Holocaust, Jewish voices, language, culture, and memory resounded anew, but where tensions related to the rebuilding of Jewish life, state policy, and the shaping of postwar Jewish reality also came to the fore.
Anna Rozenfeld—a researcher and Yiddish scholar specializing in the Yiddish language, literature, and culture, as well as Holocaust memory studies. Her research interests include, among other things, survivor testimonies, postwar Yiddish radio, and the transformations of Jewish culture and memory after the Holocaust. She was a fellow at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and has collaborated with, among others, YIVO, POLIN, the Jewish Historical Institute, and Polish Radio. She is also a translator, actress, and artist committed to promoting and preserving Yiddish heritage.
The seminar will also be available via Zoom.
